How does the GEOS emergency monitoring service work?
All SOS messages automatically provide GPS location data, displaying coordinates of where a device is when an emergency is declared. When the IERCC receive an SOS message, they will notify the emergency contacts that you designated (when you set up your account), and contact the appropriate emergency responders in the area*. GEOS also leverage inReach messaging and interactive SOS to maintain communication until the situation is resolved.
Emergency assistance with interactive SOS
SOS alerts are supplemented by text messages, allowing inReach device users to describe their emergency and providing rescuers with the information they need to come prepared to the scene. GEOS also leverages the two-way capabilities of inReach to first contact the user that declared the emergency to confirm the situation and then to maintain an open line of communication, messaging back and forth to exchange updates and critical information until your situation is resolved. SOS alerts can easily be cancelled if warranted or inadvertently triggered.
Additional GEOS offerings (not included)
